In Loving Memory of Dorothy “Dot” Parker

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy “Dot” Parker, 78, of Riverdale, who peacefully passed away on December 11, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Dot was born on March 4, 1946, to the late George and Margaret Sullivan in Norfolk, Virginia. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, whose kindness and warmth will be missed by all who knew her.

Dot spent much of her life in Riverdale, where she was a familiar face at the local library, where she worked for over 30 years before retiring in 2012. She was an avid reader, a lover of classic films, and a passionate advocate for animal welfare. Dot’s generosity, quiet strength, and commitment to her family made her a beloved figure in the community.

She is survived by her children, Caroline (James) Roberts and Stephen Parker, her grandchildren, Lily and Sam Roberts, and her sister, Helen (Jack) Turner. Dot was also a cherished aunt to several nieces and nephews, and she will be remembered fondly by her many lifelong friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Riverdale Care Home for their compassionate care and support during Dot’s final days. A memorial service will be held at Devonshire Funeral Home on December 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Riverdale Animal Shelter in Dot’s memory, as animals held a special place in her heart.

Dot’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and love for her family and community will live on forever. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will remain with us always.
